Please join Augusta University Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement staff members Jana Johnston and Mary McCormack as they share the importance of integrating guiding principles of prospect management for gift planning and overall fundraising success. You will learn how to identify your best planned giving prospects, tips for successful gift planning conversations and the optimum way to document and count those gifts so that the donors and the gift officer’s feel appreciated and valued, and the institution enjoys significant gains in fundraising totals.

Meet our Speakers!


Mary joined Augusta University as Associate VP for Gift & Estate Planning in February of 2020. In addition to initiating and leading a robust Gift & Estate Planning program, Mary is also responsible for managing all non-medicine MGOs, the fundraising staff for the CMN affiliated Children’s Hospital of Georgia, plus the AU Health Grateful Patient Program, and the Donor Engagement & Stewardship teams. Prior to joining AU, Mary served as Sr. Director of Development for Legacy Giving at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for 6 ½ years and was in various fundraising roles at the University of Georgia for 15 years, the last few of which were served as Sr. Director dedicated to Gift & Estate Planning, Corporate & Foundation Relations and a Blackbaud CRM Conversion.

Mary’s fundraising career was founded upon nearly 10 years of experience in financial planning and commodities trading – with Merrill Lynch, JC Bradford & Co., and Bill Keck Incorporated. Mary is a graduate of Middle TN State University and she attended Cumberland School of Law for one year before meeting and marrying her husband Tom, whom she supported as a legal assistant until he finished law school. They have 3 adult children and live on 10 acres in Jackson County near Winder, GA.


Jana is the Director of Prospect Development (PD) for Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement at Augusta University. She is responsible for managing the tasks, projects and administrative functions for PD. She is also responsible for moves management, prospect research, prospect identification, and metrics reporting.

Jana has been with Augusta University since 1997, working in various roles for the hospital and the university. She started her career in philanthropy in 2007 and was a prospect researcher until 2011. After briefly working in other areas at Augusta University, Jana returned to Philanthropy in 2014, where she served as Manager of Prospect Management and Research for 7 years. She was promoted to Director of Prospect Development in 2022.

Jana is a native of Augusta, Georgia, and is a “double Jag”, graduating from Augusta University’s Hull College of Business with a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing and a Master of Business Administration. She is mother to 4 cats and aunt to 3 nieces.
